Polymer science

Testing the plastics, films and compostables that touch our food — for migration, strength and honesty.

SCIENTIFIC ENVIRONMENT

Overview

Packaging is an ingredient too

This ongoing program evaluates food-contact polymers — from recyclable PET to home-compostable films — for chemical migration, barrier performance and mechanical strength. Brands use the data to choose packaging that protects food without leaching unwanted chemistry into it.

Approach

How we test it

  • Overall and specific migration testing with food simulants
  • Barrier trials for oxygen, moisture and aroma loss
  • Compostability verification under controlled conditions
  • Comparison reports ranking up to six materials side by side

Outcome

What partners take away

Compliance dossiers

Migration data formatted for EU 10/2011 and FDA food-contact submissions.

Material scorecards

One-page rankings of candidate films by safety, barrier and cost.

Shelf-life pairing

Packaging results linked to product stability data for a single verdict.

Test your packaging
